Spring is here and everyone is starting to work on their “spring cleaning lists.” Here’s one item you may not have thought of before: How to spring clean artificial turf. You made the investment to upgrade your property to include artificial grass, and in order to protect it and help it last longer it’s a great idea to give it some spring love!

One of the numerous benefits of artificial grass is that it doesn’t require the same level of care and maintenance that natural grass does. It’s well known as a lower maintenance option, so that’s already a win. Bonus – you’re also saving water and respecting the environment.

Artificial grass doesn’t need excessive care, but here are some tips to keep your grass looking in tip top shape. What better time than spring to check in with this routine care checklist!

Artificial Grass Spring Care Tips:

  1. Clear the grass of any items on top of it before cleaning. This will make it easier to clean and fluff.
  2. Check your lawn for any damage. If you find any damage from fire embers, or see any tears, sags, or buckles, you can repair just that section now before the busy entertaining summer season.
  3. Look for and clean any stains right away. This will prevent them from drying out and protect the appearance of your grass. You can use water and soap for daily stains, or ammonia for the tougher ones!
  4. Use a rake to remove dry leaves, paper, or other debris that may have blown onto your lawn. Next, use a hose and lightly spray all over to remove dust, bugs, and residues.
  5. Pet eliminations should be cleaned with soap, lye, and water to disinfect while you clean it. You can use vinegar and water on urine as well to kill bacteria.
  6. Make sure you use the right products to clean the lawn and eliminate the bacteria.
  7. Brush the lawn regularly in the opposite direction of the filaments. That way you can raise filaments, find and remove hidden debris underneath, and “freshen up” the look of your grass.
  8. When bringing out your spring furniture, make sure to not drag them across the lawn so that you don’t damage the fibers. This is also a great opportunity to update and replace cushions and pillows on your outdoor furniture.
  9. After your regular spring cleaning, you should continue to clean debris weekly with a rake and rinse the lawn with a hose to remove any residue from individual blades of grass.

Installing artificial grass is a great way to minimize spring cleanup. This way you have more time to focus on planting in your garden, playing with your pets, spending quality time with your family, and enjoying the beautiful weather!
