As we enter into the holiday season and approach Thanksgiving, we have thankfulness and gratitude on our hearts. Despite trying events and uncertain times we can always find something, even something simple that has brought us joy over the past year. Many people spent more time at home this last year and this enabled them to focus on dreams and projects they may have been putting off until “the right time.” One thing that many of us may have realized is that procrastination doesn’t bring joy. Be present in the moment and work to fulfill your goals each day.
One thing that brings many of us joy is our landscape. Our gardens and yards can provide a sanctuary for our families as well as a safe place to celebrate, meditate, play and truly relax. We have the power to make our landscapes whatever we need them to be.
We can separate the yard into separate areas to suit our needs. Our children’s play area could have artificial grass to provide them with a clean and safe place to daydream and create their newest games. Or we could have laid artificial grass in the dog run to provide a dedicated area for our furry pup to take care of business and run around! Maybe you installed an outdoor kitchen this summer so that you could bbq and relax at home without having to spend too much time in public. Dad really was able to perfect his Mr. Chef skills!
This year there was a lot of focus on raised garden beds and container gardening. Many people looked for ways to incorporate gardens, especially edible gardens into their backyard spaces. Raised beds provided a simpler way to grow fresh veggies, herbs and fragrant flowers. How much time were you able to spend outside this summer sitting in your garden chairs staring at your beautiful lawn and flowers and watching the antics of hummingbirds and other fauna that you attracted to your yard?
Gardening this year also provided us with fresh air, exercise and the healthy meditation. As we place our hands in the dirt it helps us to reduce stress. Gardening and pulling weeds burns calories, which allow us to eat even more of that delicious pumpkin pie! It’s also a great way to take out some of your anger or frustration from traffic or new restrictions. Just rip those weeds out! When we are anxious it helps to take on small tasks and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes from completion. As you watch your plants grow and provide for their care you can be satisfied to know that your hard work has paid off, and literally enjoy the fruits of your labor in some cases!
Spending time in nature and reconnecting allows us to focus on the things that really matter to us and take the time to meditate on all the things we have to be thankful for in our lives. Our landscapes can truly provide us with a simple and tangible source of joy. We are happy that we can help you make your landscaping dreams come true and are always here ready and willing to answer any questions that you may have. We are thankful for you.
